+ Long lost words whisper slowly to me Still can't find what keeps me here When all this time I've been so hollow inside...
I know you're still there.+
The forest was silent, eerily so. Though the great golden disc of the sun was still at it's highest point in the azure sky, very little of it's light penetrated through the thick deciduous canopy. The light that did was dappled a soft green-brown, and did nothing to illuminate the forest floor, which at the moment seemed devoid of life. No birds hopped from branch to branch, singing as they fluttered about their daily business. No mice or foxes snuffled at the fallen leaves, no light footsteps resounded through the trees. The atmosphere was oddly tense, as though all life was waiting, watching, hiding in fear...
+ Watching me; Wanting me; I can feel you pull me down Fearing you; Loving you; I won't let you pull me down... +
Suddenly, the forest stirred. A tiny squirrel, barely a few months old, leapt from the branches of a mighty oak, landing on the ground with a soft thud. Running through the fur on it's tail with tiny claws, it proceeded to pick out small specks of dirt from it's landing. Blinking once, it looked around itself, as if wondering where everything went.
... And was consumed by a roaring jet of hot blue flame, so shocked that it couldn't even squeak as the heat literally cooked it alive. A dark chuckle resounded through the thick tree trunks as the fire died away, revealing a small charred shape nearly unrecognizable as a squirrel. An acrid stench of burning fur and flesh suddenly spiked the air, smoke swirling upwards from the corpse and fading into nothingness. The culprit of the squirrel's murder stepped forth from the shadows.
+ Hunting you, I can smell you - Alive. Your heart pounding in my head... +
The creature was so large, it would have startled anything as it slipped forth from the gloom beneath the same tree the squirrel fell from. And make them wonder how in hell's name it hid.... Bright crimson marks adorned the beast's jet-black hide, and a stiff mane of blood-red hair ran down her long spine. A lengthy, almost serpentine tail slowly swept from side-to-side behind her, ending in a thick plume of the same red fur. A pair of sunset-hued orbs, narrowed slightly, seemed to shine in the gloom, the creature's powerful muzzle slightly creased. No ears were visible on the sides of her broad head... Just tiny marks where once they sprouted.
The creature padded towards her kill, leather nares flared, taking in what was to her the delicious scent of food. Small wisps of smoke still escaped her maw, showing that it was indeed her that had set the little creature alight. She seemed unharmed by the mighty blast, not even the slightest scorch mark showing on her long, ivory fangs. Those fangs soon became lightly coated with ash as she leaned forwards to pick up the dead animal, her catch seeming pathetically small compared to her monstrous bulk. With a few bone-shuddering crunched she devoured it, obviously enjoying the taste of the burnt flesh.
Surprisingly, Hajakari was in a good mood. She had been stalking this forest for a while now, and so far the only things she could complain about were the lack of large game. She'd already polished off most of the deer, and those that remained had quickly become wary of her quick lunges from the shadows and the miniature infernos that usually accompanied her. But she could deal with that; Hajakari liked her hunts to be more challenging. It wasn't much fun when her prey was killed as easily as that poor squirrel... Though to be honest, hunting wasn't much fun anyways. Haja liked to be able to test her mettle against the forest inhabitants, and so far even the mightiest stag fell to her in less than a few seconds. She had recently been contemplating moving on again in search of bigger things to fry, but she liked the feel of this place... It was dark, and from what she had seen so far, almost uninhabited. But of course, she had made sure of the latter...
Sighing, partly from boredom and partly from being content, the mighty beast loped further into the trees. At the moment; she was only at the outskirts of the woods... But her long, powerful limbs soon brought her to the very heart of the forest, where the trees were thick and the deer were abundant. Or rather, were abundant. Here she entered a wide clearing, visibly scorched near the edges and with many charred, fallen trees scattering the outskirts. There was very little grass here - something had obviously burned most of it away.
+ Watching me; Wanting me; I can feel you pull me down Fearing you; Loving you; I won't let you pull me down. +

The eerie silence made the bull content; no one else was around. Just the way he liked it. Blood-thirsty eyes scanned the surrounding area, painting an image into his memory. The aroma of burnt meat drifted into his nares, and the bull took in a deep breath; savouring the smell. Harks twitched, catching the sound of something crunching the burnt animal. Tail whisked the air, and the bull began stalking to where the sound came from.
Devilish gaze tore through the darkness, landing upon a maroon beast. Snorting softly, his lips curled back into a smirk. He silently watched the other mohawked animal, tail swaying side to side. Every bone was visible on the bull; ribs and all. He raised his head, keeping watch on the other.

The beast halted, mid-step. Her canine senses did not lie, and at the present moment they were telling her she was being watched. An odd smell drifted to her flared leather nares, and she growled as she identified a prey animal... Exactly what it was she didn't know, but is reminded her a little of those large "cow" creatures she'd seen once when intruding on human territory. She was chased off before she could make a kill, but she had stored away the information on them in the folder in her mind marked "food"... They did look quite meaty.
A grim smile made it's way onto her fierce features, goldem eyes glinting with something sinister, some hidden thing of the dark. Dark sabers, turned black by use of her fire-breath, were bared threateningly... But she didn't turn to see what stalked her. Out of pure instinct smoke began to seep from the gaps between her ferocious fangs, and she briefly wondered if she was still capable of spitting up her fireballs... Liquid gas produced by a gland in the roof of her mouth, combined with a small lick of flame... Long-lasting balls of fire that clung to the flesh of enimies, burned a bright blue, and couldn't be put out by water.
But wait... If this was a "cow", why did she need bother? She'd partaken of an animal bigger than a cow before, and that wasn't hard to bring down with just her claws ans fangs... A horse, was it called?
Her instinct to fight remained, but she surpressed it for now, Maybe this creature was smart enough to run when faced with a massive beast capable of blasting flames.
"Show yourself, whoever you are. I know you're there."
Only now did she turn, orbs scanning the foilage.
((Just out of curiosity, how big in feet is Appolyn? ^^))

((How big? Well..... He's about five feet at the shoulder. *ish trying to sound happy* My post might really svck....))
Maroon eyes flashed dangerously, harks twitching at the sound of the creatures voice. To him, it sounded as if the other was taunting him. Pft. Why did it even matter? Nares caught the aroma of smoke, yet again. He could sense that the other creature would turn and fight on a dime, but so could he.
Stepping out from the shadows, the bull had no intention of charging... Yet.
"I've showed myself. What else do you want, runt?"

(( Holy shiz. Haja is 5' 02"... My hellhound is roughly the same size as a bull! =o [And almost the same size as me too, lol. xDD] Knew she was big, didn't know she was that big... xD Oh well, no leap-onto-back-and-bronco-ride for her. ^^ Meh, And BTW, Dun worry about the safety of your boy... Haja may act big 'n bad, but it's only when she goes "demon" you need to watch. And yeah, she's never seen a bull... Poor Hound. xD)) Flame-hued orbs narrowed as mocking vocals reverbrated through the air, a low snarl emmitting in response. Great. She'd been thinking of just relaxing all day, but of course, one of those cow things had to show up... And this one seemed to have a bit of an attitude. But this one wasn't like those stupid chubby things she'd see hiding behing their fences and barns, this one actually looked rather tough... More boney even than she was, though she had her insane muscle mass to thank for that. [Or curse, dragging all that weight around while exhausted was always a beatch. That thing looked strong too though... Looking at the thick bulk on the bull's neck, She actually began to wonder if she should excercise more.] Not that those large, rather painful-looking horns would save him if she decided to lunge... Ok, maybe she'd not lunge... There was something she didn't like in those blood-colored orbs, And though she sure as hell wasn't going to tiptoe around the large brown beast's temper, she wouldn't just dive head-on in and kick it in the balls. No, screw that too; Hajakari was NOT a runt. Stupid cow. ((xD)) "Runt? I wouldn't be so quick to throw around that word, especially since it's you who seems to be "vertically challenged"."The large crimson-black hound bared her long sabers at this, long, plumed tail slowly sweeping the air to her sides, the hound herself in a half-turned position, one muscular pillar hovering in the air. Ok... Maybe she shouldn't have called the bull short, it wasn't really THAT much smaller than her... And she had to admit she didn't fancy being under those hooves. Oh well. The damage was done now, if the cow charged she could always just jump out of the way, if not shred it. ((Yeah... Have you noticed I tend to ramble a bit yet? xD))

((Lol. I'm not that worried about 'im, but this could get rather fun.... Rofl.))
A smirk ebbed it's way onto the bulls maw. This hound was rather funny, in a way.
"Verticaly challenged..... Big words for you."
He mumbled, eyeing the hound. Fire danced in his maroon eyes, and his tail whipped the air once. The hound wasn't smaller than him, nor was it that much bigger; hardly. Oh well. He'd never back down from a fight. The bull scraped the earth with a dagger, snorting. He wasn't about to get owned by the hound; never.
"The name's Apollyn."
He spat.
((Gosh, my muse is horrible today....))

[[-blinks stupidly-
Oh. Eh... heheh]]
Nyota was nervous. Nervous from the first cloven hoof he had branded on the floor of the In-Between Lands. Neither Dark nor Light. A little comforting, considering the possible scavengers, murderers, suicidal beasts lurking in the forest. He shivered, his bones aching from cold, cramp from fear and the air collapsing his muscles. It would not do to meet some unearthly creature while he was in so much pain.
His wing tips lightly brushing the many tree-trunks and leaves, he stole quietly forwards, his heart hammering. How long he had left his lands of Light, he did not know. It felt like hundreds of hours. Nostrils flared in the darkness, dark scarlet opening from the rawness. The whites of his eyes showed and glowed obvious in the night. His markings were of good use here, camouflaged unless he should move to quickly, or should another smell him first.
Smell! What an idiot! Had he not taken into account that he was in the movement of the wind. Surely, he had given away his position to any here now... Panic rose like bile in his throat... Or wait, was that real vomit? Nyota felt sick. Sick with himself for being so stupid, sick with fear, and sick with the air that he was breathing. It was hardly as clear and nutritious as his land's. The kudu was scared stiff. Contractions and muscle spasms ran the length of his body. He lifted his wings, poised for action. Then...
Voices.
How far was he from them? His eyes widened what seemed an impossible further inch, his hoof slid on the ground backwards in the leafy ground...
How much longer did he have before he was found?
Ah, but how little did he know of the beasts belonging to the voices he was hearing...
[[Ugh. Sorry to put you through that boring read...]]

Razorlined maw was left partially open as Hajakari prepared to shoot a sharp retort, but was instead distracted by a curious change in the atmosphere. A sinister luminescence began to form in flame-hued orbs, and the marks on her hide suddenly seemed to give off the same light, as though someone had flicked a switch and lit her from within. But after a few seconds the glowing faded away, and powerful crania swung away from the bull to point in the direction of where she knew the stench of fear hung heavily. Her whole body tensed as though to spring, the look in her eyes feral, bloodthirsty... Then she seemed to catch herself, sheathing her claws again from where they'd unconciously popped out and glanced back to the bovine, a slight frown on her face. On the outside she may have appeared to suffer some sort of mental attack, and indeed, the appearance would be true. It was unusual for Thanos to be so easily excited by fear... Hmm.
'Pup...' 'What is it? It'd be nice if you weren't trying to make me spring into bushes after nothing every five seconds, y'know.' 'Not after nothing, Pup... I sense prey of some sort observing us. Can I...? 'No, Thanos... And what's the big deal? You didn't jump when the cow appeared.... And everything is prey to you. 'Correct. So be thankful I cannot get out to harm you right now... And I did not "Jump". That would be physically impossible, given my current state, pup. And just so you know, that is not a COW, as you so intelligently put it... Rather it is a bull, the male counterpart.' 'Uh, yeah... I knew that... But could you maybe NOt do whatever-it-is-you-just-did?' 'Ugh... I swear, I should make you go see a pupsitter or something. I'll think about it. And by the way, have you ever heard of something called ADHD?' 'Aae-dee-what?'
The crimson-marred beast gave a small sigh, seeming to momentarily forget all about the large cloven-hoofed brute behind her, instead scanning the area with sharp eyes for the new intruder. Ack, so much for this place being quiet... She'd have to put up a nice burning barrier once this lot were gone.... Maybe throw in a few corpses, scare off the weaklings. Tailtip twitched as Hajakari suddenly realised the bull had spoken a moment ago, but couldn't really see the point in delivering a delayed retort... Took away from the jab, in her opinion. She still kept a little bit of a wary eye on him, but now her attention was focused upon the newcomer Thanos had told her was here, she appeared to be ignoring him, instead calling out into the bushes.
"You might as well come out too, I know you're there. And calm down, Don't know about the other guy, but I'm not gonna eat you..."
The "Yet" was muttered as she turned away again, stretching in a catlike fashion, before retreating a few steps and reclining back on her haunches, plumed tail curled around her muscular frame.
((Sorry for the late reply. DX And I'm not really ignoring ya, Appolyn. xD))

Nyota was frozen. His eyes buzzed nonchalantly, peering through the darkness from where something that smelt like death itself had spoken. A yellow hand of fear strangled his throat and threatened to drown him. Where was the King inside him? How had this blind panic risen? It happened to all, but not Nyota. Not the Star.
Questions spun through his head. First, what alliance did the two bulk belong to? Would he be able to fool them? Outrun them? Was his wingspan and agility useful at this time?
And second, the more worrying: What of his courage? What of his leadership? He felt like a yellow livered coward standing in the cold and shaking like a leaf. Had it all abandoned him?
Would he let down... his army?
Guilt felt superficial in the sickening of fear. What was it that he always did at these times?
The answer came slowly, like a snail moving on a go-slow through peanut butter. [[XP]]
Where was the song...
Strength, courage, and wisdom And it's been inside of me all along, Strength, courage, and wisdom Inside of me
Behind my pride there lives a me, that knows humility Inside my voice there is a soul, and in my soul there is a voice But I've been, too afraid to make a choice 'Cause I'm scared of the things that I might be missing Running too fast to stop and listen
It's time to step out on faith, I've gotta show my faith It's been illusive for so long but freedom is mine today I've gotta step out on faith it's time to show my faith Procrastination had me down but look what I have found, I found
Strength, courage, and wisdom And it's been inside of me all along, Strength, courage, and wisdom Inside of me
Nyota stepped out.

The bull shifted his weight, harks twitching. Footsteps. He heard the red wolf speak, and he smirked.
"I won't eat you either. Maybe."
Maybe being the key word there. He turned his head, blood thirsty eyes falling upon an antellope type creature. A smirk crossed his maw, tail whisking the air.

A "brow" c.ocked itself as what seemed to be another warped farmlands animal stepped forth from the gloomy foilage...
'Antelope actually, pup. Probably of the Kudo species. You should know by now.'
Ok, so apparently it was a Kudu, or Komo or something... When the hell did Thanso get so smart? he was like... A spiritual enyclopedia. With a lot more evilness. Stupid demon, never gave her a moment's peace... And she still couldn't see why he was so surprised about the newcomer. Ok, it had wings... And nasty looking horns... But so did the Bull. Which reminded her, she still didn't know their names, and she doubted that damned monster would. Well, she might as well give them her name at least.. Then they'd be able to tell everyone who almost ate them, and maybe she'd get some peace through notority. Well, she probably wouldn't eat them... Maybe just give 'em a jolt. Or ember.
"Whoops, I seem to have forgotten my manners. The name's Hajakari, yours?"
She almost chuckled as the bull spoke again, grumbling something that sounded quite amusing.
((NO MUSE FTW. DX))
